The North Korean government commemorated the regime’s founder Kim Il-sung, grandfather of current leader Kim Jong-un, on July 8, the 25th anniversary of his death. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, where Kim’s embalmed body lies in a glass sarcophagus, on July 8. It’s notable that Vice Foreign Minister Choi Son-hui and Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) First Vice Director Kim Yo-jong were at the front of the mourning parade, reflecting their increased status within the North Korean regime.
