Currently visiting the US, South Korean Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul is urging Washington to support the resumption of tourism to Mt. Kumgang, emphasizing the virtuous cycle that affects inter-Korean relations and North Korea-US relations. During the 2019 Korea Global Forum at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, Kim pointed out that only when inter-Korean relations, North Korea-US relations, and South Korea-US relations form a virtuous cycle has there been progress in the process of forming peace on the Korean Peninsula. He then said that inter-Korean projects like Mt. Kumgang tourism are necessary for progressing things like Washington’s denuclearization negotiations with Pyongyang.
